We had quite the adventure on our way to Valparaiso... Sue picked us up at about 4:15 as we wanted to miss the Friday afternoon traffic that Chicago is famous for. We started off on our tour of toll booths (Sue really got the hang of tossing coins at the machines left-handed!) and managed to avoid most of the mess.
At one toll booth, we happened to look over and who did we see 2 stalls over but Mr. Sulton himself! Sue was asking us not to make a fuss, so she could concentrate on driving, but Sandi & I couldn't help ourselves... we were waving and grinning from ear to ear. Kasim caught sight of us and sped up, waved at us all, and then disappeared behind some of the slower moving vehicles. I think Sue slowed down purposely at that point to give him a head start!! We also stopped for dinner at McDonald's (Mickey D's - that was the first time Sue had heard it called that!) which gave Kasim even more time to get to Valpo before us...
Once we got to town, we had a few troubles with our Yahoo maps. Seems they don't always feel the need to finish the directions door to door... Fortunately the nice man in Culver's recognized the name of the store/club and gave us wonderful directions...
Kasim was relaxed and comfy-looking in a grey sweater (jumper, if you're British like Sue!) and jeans. He came down to get his guitar and a cuppa for a last minute warm-up, and said hi to all of us gathered in the room. I was lucky enough to get the first personal greeting... made my night even better!
Pictures tell the story so much better than I can, again, so here we go - the lighting was markedly better than Shank Hall but still no flash so Kasim looks a bit pink tonight...

A RARE shot of Kasim singing with his eyes open...
All in all, a wonderful evening of stories and songs. We got to hear Libertine at Front Porch, and Kasim spoke to me from on stage. I have the video to prove it! Of course, he asked me about the Glenn Burtnik Christmas show (which I've never been lucky enough to attend), but he still said my name!! Fortunately, Cyndi was able to help him out with the story, as she's been to at least one of the shows... phew!
After the show, Kasim was his usual gracious self, posing for photos and signing things that everyone put in front of him. He signed about a billion things for me that night, and Sue was even joking that he might have to cancel a few shows as his hand was getting overworked! Thankfully, the pretzels and Snapple seemed to perk him right up :-)
The Traveling Trio listened to the POV and Oblivion CD's on the way back, and discussed our favorite Utopia songs (mine's Monument) as well favorite moments from the past 2 shows.
Next up - the triumphant return to the Abbey Pub in Chicago - read on for more...
